Why We’re Celebrating Bike Month at Good Body

May is National Bike Month, and here in Santa Monica, it’s a pretty big deal. Biking is such a great way to get around whether you're commuting, cruising to the beach, or just taking a break from LA traffic. At Good Body, we love anything that keeps our bodies moving, and cycling checks so many boxes: it's sustainable, energizing, and good for your mind and mood.

Since we’re all about supporting movement that supports your life, I wanted to take a second to talk about why Pilates is so good for cyclists.

Pilates + Biking = A Perfect Match

If you’re someone who rides a lot, you’ve probably noticed a few common things: tight hips, stiff lower back, maybe some shoulder tension. Pilates helps with all of that.

Here are a few reasons cyclists should be doing Pilates:

  • Core strength – So much of your power on the bike comes from a strong core. Pilates helps you build deep core stability that supports your spine and makes every pedal stroke more efficient.

  • Hip mobility + glute strength – Sitting on a bike for miles can lead to tight hips and overworked quads. Pilates helps open up your hips and strengthen those glutes (yes, we love a good glute burn!).

  • Better posture + alignment – All that time hunched over the handlebars can take a toll on your upper body. Pilates works to undo that by strengthening your postural muscles and improving alignment.
